Tumblr is a blogging platform that aims at providing an effortless experience of sharing text, images, quotes, links, music and videos.One can follow other users and get an aggregation of their posts together on his dashboard.The blogs can be reblogged by any user if they find them worth to do it.

Introduced and founded by David Karp in 2007 with Marco Arment as lead developer, the platform was a right away success with 75,000 bloggers switching to it. Now, it cites more than 2 million users with a retention rate of 85% as compared to just 40% of Twitter . Some prominent users include names like John Legend, Katy Perry, and Dianna Agron etc. The tumbler app for iPhone was created by Jeff Rock and bought by Tumblr in 2009.

• Public or Private Blogs: A blog can be shared amongst a number of users that hold full control once they are invited.
• Application: Users can build their own applications with the provided Tumbr API
• Tumblr has also introduced features like blogger where you can save posts as drafts, or keep a post to be published at a specific time. You can also queue them up.
• Audio Content:A new feature which enables the user to post audio content directly from a phone call. It uses international rate.

Tumblr claims 50 million visitors and a healthy 255 million impressions in July 2009 Techcrunch
