Facebook, one of the popular social networking sites, connects, lets you share and offer other valid features like uploading photos, videos and share links as well.  It has over 350 million registered users.

Founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, as a network between Harvard students, it had glaring success and the network grew from there. It was in September 2006, Facebook opened to anyone with an email address. Over 1 million new users signed up every week, 200,000 daily, totaling over 50 million active users. Facebook received 40 billion page views a month.

Facebook tends to be the 6th most trafficked site in the US and still growing.

Features:

  • Facebook provides you with ‘The Wall’ which is a space on each user's profile page that allows friends to post messages updated with the day and time.
  • You can also upload photos to Facebook ad even tag your friends in it.
  • Users can also add videos even by adding video through Facebook Mobile, or using a webcam.
  • In February 2007, Facebook added ‘virtual gift feature’ wherein friends can send gifts to each other.
  • In May 2007, Facebook introduced the Facebook Marketplace for users to post free classified ads. However, in 2009, Facebook transferred the ownership of the Marketplace to Oodle. 
  • Facebook also has a poke feature intended to say hello or attract attention in a way.
  • Facebook has a micro-blogging feature called "status updates". Users can also like and comment on the status updates.
  • You can update your status n times at "What's on your mind?"
  • You can also tag certain friends within your status update by adding an @ character before their name which in turn, would notify them.
  • Facebook allows you to join different groups, share your thoughts and participate in group discussions and events.
  • Individuals or companies can create "Pages" of which users can "become a fan" of the individual, product, service, or concept.
  • On April 23, 2008, Facebook Chat was released.
  • Online Notifications keep on appearing while notifications for more important events, e.g. commenting on a post appear in the bottom right. 
  • In 2009, Facebook introduced for users to choose a Facebook username to make them more accessible and easier.
